Szv Urges Compliance Businesses Have To Pay Premiums Or Make Contact

PHILIPSBURG, SintMaarten Social and health Insurance provider SZV has seen a drop of someNAf4 million per month in premiums since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. This constitutes a significant loss for the solidarity fund that is built on a pay-as-you-go system that pays for the health care costs of all insured clients.

In spite of the drop in premiums, SZV is so far keeping pace with the needs of its clients. The decline in overseas medical referrals due to the pandemic has also helped as well as the availability of more treatments and specialists locally.

AIRPORT:--- The Holding Company of the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) has officially dismissed its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brian Mingo.
In December 2020 the Holding Company dispatched a letter to Mingo asking him to resign from the position as they have lost confidence in him.
The letter sent to Mingo was published on this news website. Mingo was given until January 4th, 2021 to willingly resign however the companys CEO who was in discussion with the Holding Company pulled back his payout proposal and said he would not be resigning, leaving the Holding Company no choice but to start the dismissal process.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications(Ministry of TEATT), Ludmila de Weever,said over the weekend, that the Ministries TEATT, theMinistry of Public Health, Social Development andLabour(Ministry of VSA),and the Ministry of Justice,will be stepping up controls of businesses making sure that they are adhering to the COVID-19 public health and safety protocols.

The aforementioned directive came out of an emergency Council of Ministers meeting on Good Friday, April 2nd that was called as a result of a major COVID-19 outbreak in the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao).

The UK variant of the COVID-19 virus is wreaking havoc on the ABC islands, forcing Sint Maarten to place travel restrictions as of April 5 in order to protect the local population. There are various variants circulating on the island including the UK variant. On Saturday, Curacao reported over 4000 active COVID-19 cases, 120 persons hospitalized, 44 of them in the Intensive Care Unit, and a death toll of 44 persons.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA), Richard Panneflek hereby informs the public that effective Monday April 5, travel restrictions from the ABC islands to St Maarten will go into effect.

Considering the regional epidemiology and consequent likelihood of imported cases from highly concentrated pools of the UK variant (B.1.1.7), together with the absence of systematic nationwide genetic surveillance on Sint Maarten, CPS recommends temporary border closures to Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, effective immediately.

CPS would review the situation on each island on a 2-weekly basis.
