UPDATE POLICE REPORT: Road fatality

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — On Wednesday, December 21, at 1:45am, a fatal car accident took place at the intersection of the Hulda B. Richardson/Oyster Pond/Bishop Hill roads.

The driver, a 56-year-old male with initials C.S.T., born in Suriname, was traveling in a beige 2012 Suzuki Vitara P-8938, on Hulda B. Richardson Road where the driver apparently lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road, resulting in the vehicle landing on its left side.

PHILIPSBURG – NV GEBE celebrated its yearly “Santa Comes to GEBE,” where children from the I Can Foundation, Hope Outreach Foster Care, and students of the public schools received an early Christmas gift at GEBE’s Christmas Village located on the Ring Road.

Over 300 gifts were distributed this year to children ages of 2-12. Children within the public schools were selected by the teachers. The children were joyful and enjoyed the day GEBE hosted in their honor.

Update: “Cuchi’S” Brother Tito Set Free By Judge Of Instruction

UPDATE: ~Arrest procedure deemed unlawful~

BELVEDERE, Sint Maarten (Update 13:45 pm) – Tito Fortune regained his freedom after the Judge of Instruction found there were irregularities in his arrest procedure.

Fugitive Kathron “Cuchi” Fortune’s brother Tito was arrested on Wednesday, December 14, in Belvedere. A search of his home followed, but nothing was found at in the home that could directly incriminate him in the disappearance of the two missing men.

Spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office Gino Bernadina and his lawyer Remco Stomp confirmed to 721news that Tito was set free on Friday, December 16.

Suspect To Pay For Damages, Repay Proceeds Of Crime

PHILIPSBURG – The Court of First Instance on Thursday, December 14, sentenced F.F.C. (38) to pay NAf. 2,197.16 and US $1,900 to one of his victims and pay US $3,460 to another victim.

The victims had submitted a claim for damages suffered.

On July 13, 2016, F.F.C. was sentenced by the Court of First Instance to 20 years in jail. He was found guilty of committing 9 armed robberies, 4 thefts with assault, and battery, attempted manslaughter against one police officer, threatening two persons with a firearm of which one was a 14-year-old boy, and illegal firearms possession.

Motion Tabled To Aid In Avoidance Of Criminal Prosecution For Back Taxes

PHILIPSBURG--Government has been called on, via a yet-to-be voted on motion from Parliament, to initiate a public campaign to inform the population of the possibilities it has to make use of the tax facilities provided by General Ordinance on Taxes, such as the voluntary disclosure scheme (“Inkeerregeling” in Dutch) on how to avoid criminal prosecution under law.
