Court Set To Rule On Lifting Matser’S Restriction Today

PHILIPSBURG--The Court of Appeal is expected to rule on the lifting of the visitor restriction imposed against independent Member of Parliament Silvio Matser. Attorney At Law Cor Merx Filed Motion With Court For Mp Matser Release From Pre-Trial Detention, Prosecutor Objected Vehemently.

PHILIPSBURG:--- A judge at the Court of First Instance is expected to rule on a motion filed by Attorney at Law Cor Merx to have his client MP Silvio Matser released from pre-trial detention.
The hearing was held on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm.
SMN News learnt that the prosecution objected vehemently to the request filed by Merx, citing that the prosecution has enough evidence against the Member of Parliament for election fraud and affiliation with a criminal organization.

PHILIPSBURG:---- Prime Minister William Marlin, Minister Angel Meyers and their Dutch Technical teams met with the Perfet of Saint Martin, the President of the Collectivite and their French Technical teams on Monday to discuss the Cole Bay Sewage Plant collaboration project.

The aim of the meeting was to come to an agreement on the exact location of the Sewage Plant, as well as to discuss the orientation and the joint approach of this project.

Ultimately, both parties will proceed with finalizing the estimated cost for this project, as well as the investigation of the preliminary design, in terms of the technology, needed to complete this project.

Four New Suspects Being Heard In ‘Octopus’ Probe

PHILIPSBURG--The tentacles of the “Octopus” investigation continue to grab suspects. Four more suspects were hauled in Monday for questioning by the National Detectives in the ongoing investigation into election fraud (vote buying) in the August 2014 Parliamentary Elections. This brings the suspect tally to fourteen.

Up Party Board Supports Position By Up Mps And Independents To Resolve Sint Maarten Government Crisis And Provide Stability

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten -– The Board of the United People’s Party (UP) supports the position taken by UP Members of Parliament (MPs) and Independent MPs Cornelius de Weever and MP Leona Marlin-Romeo, also known as the Super Seven, with respect to the current political situation that the country finds itself in.

The options are very reasonable and in the interests of the country in moving forward.  The question is, will the Marlin Government show political maturity in working with the opposition for the sake of the country?

Us Coast Guard Conducts Port Assessment On Isps

PHILIPSBURG – Over the course of three days, February 22-25, St. Maarten underwent another bi-annual Country Assessment.

Two facilities were assessed, namely, the A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facilities and Chevron Bulk Station. The facilities were found to be in satisfactory compliance and no major non-conformities were found. Marlin: Matser’S Case Highlights Need For Own Attorney-General

PHILIPSBURG--The arrest of independent Member of Parliament (MP) Silvio Matser just hours before the draft 2016 budget was expected to go to a vote in Parliament and the claim by the Attorney-General and Prosecutor’s Office that the ongoing budget debate was unknown to them highlights the need for St. Maarten to have its own Attorney-General, says National Alliance (NA) leader Prime Minister William Marlin.

Marlin said in a press conference on Friday that the manner in which Matser was arrested was “unfortunate” and the details of the case “are not clear to anybody.”
