Gumbs, Peterson: President Of Parliament Does Not Speak For Pfp

~ Letter to Prime Minister is a masterclass in being tactless ~

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — Party for Progress (PFP) Members of Parliament (MPs) Melissa Gumbs and Raeyhon Peterson on Wednesday, April 28, 2022, distanced themselves and their faction from the statements made by President of Parliament Grisha Heyliger-Marten in a recent letter to Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs.

Gumbs expressed her frustration with the continued misuse of the position of the President of Parliament, adding that letters sent by the President of Parliament give the impression that the words and sentiments are on behalf of the entire Sint Maarten Parliament.
The President of Parliament is trying to shield herself by acting as if she is only sending the letter in her capacity as a lone MP, Gumbs commented, However, much like when former President of Parliament Brison blundered in his letter to the Central Bank, this is again an instance of not recognizing that, when you are the President of Parliament, your words reflect and often give the impression of being representative of the entire Parliament.

Moreover, in parts of Heyliger-Martens letter, the wording itself gives the impression of a unified Parliament standing behind its President Read more

Four Months In 2022 And No Contract Was Issued By Government To Clean Trenches

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — For 4 months the trenches havent been cleaned because the contracts expired since December 2021 and until this day they havent been renewed. The amount of pollution that goes into the ponds when it rains is big and it heads into the sea when the Government open up the Fresh pond to drop the pond level.

All the plastic and Styrofoam items will kill many fishes and turtles in the ponds or sea if we allow this to continue. Also many trenches like the Rolandus channel, Belvedere trenches, Ring road, arch road (by pool bar) trenches and many other trenches around the island arent hard surfaces and are growing closed.

Lastly many culverts (pipes under the roads etc.) are mostly blocked up with sand, rocks and stray garbage, causing lots of water remaining on the roads Read more

If Only Everybody Could Have Done His Or Her Share, We All Would Be Better Off.

Therefore, when driving around one can see different car wrecks parked on the side of the road. The Department of VROMI does keep clean-up campaign but does not go with all the wrecks. I do not know what the criteria is, but there are wrecks parked for years in the same (Maracas drive, Cay bay) spot.

There are 2-way roads that became inaccessible because there is a line-up of car wrecks and so the road became a narrow passage where as only one car can pass at a time Read more
