Mp Emmanuel: Govt. Awarding Vacation Pay Illegally

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Independent Member of Parliament Christophe Emmanuel on Thursday disclosed to Parliament that he has been made aware that the government has paid out vacation pay to some civil servants, in direct contravention of the law (national ordinance) to cut the employment benefits and income of civil servants, (semi) public sector workers.

Corruption Allegations In Building Permits Department, Backlog Creating Concerns.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Several persons who submitted applications for building permits and have been waiting for lengthy periods are alleging that civil servants within the Building Permits Department are allegedly demanding bribes in order to process their application.
Some persons that contacted SMN News said that they applied for their building permits for years now and there has been a backlog. These concerns SMN News learned were brought to the attention of the Minister of VROMI Egbert Jurendy Doran but so far nothing tangible was done to address the situation.
They said civil servants that have to handle the dossier and evaluate the requests are allegedly demanding money outside of the regular fees to begin processing their requests.

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — On Thursday, November 18, the Council of Ministers held a fruitful consultation meeting with the Committee for Civil Servants Unions (CCSU) and its members of the Windward Island Civil Servants Union (WICSU/PSU), Windward Islands Teachers Union (WITU), and Algemene Bond van Overheid en Overige Personeel (ABVO) union as well as a representative of NAPB.
