Welcome Baby Launched With Smmc And Rotary Mid Isle

CAY HILL – On Tuesday, March 21, nurses of the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) collaborated with the Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle to officially launch the baby bags in their “Welcome Baby” project.

The launch included a presentation by Rotarians Denise Antrobus, Anjali Manek, and Nurse St. Cyr of the OB/GYN ward, who started the “Welcome Baby” initiative to support new mothers in need, as part of her objectives for this year.

PHILIPSBURG:---Utility provider GEBE and the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) have partnered for Carnival 2017 to specifically highlight SCDF’s Culture Night and culture in general throughout Carnival. The two entities are no strangers, having partnered for well over three decades in various forms.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The preliminary round of the Scotiabank Rotary-Rotaract Spelling Bee 2016 was held on Sunday 16th October at the Belair Community Center. This is the sixth time the Spelling Bee is being held and was started by the late President Ramesh Manek in 2011.
This year seventeen schools participated, fifteen schools from St. Maarten and two schools from Anguilla. PHILIPSBURG:--- When the new Rotary year commences on July 1, 2016, Veronica Jansen-Webster will assume her role as president of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten Mid Isle. She will be the second female president in the 19 year history of the club's existence, following after Past President Millicent Lopez-De Weever.

The official Change of Board ceremony took place on Saturday June 25, 2016 at Melange Restaurant in Port de Plaisance in a festive ambiance.

The current president, David Antrobus, handed over the club's original framed charter from Rotary International and after the passing of the gavel and the president's collar, the new president addressed the gathering.

During this ceremony, four people were honored with a Paul Harris Fellow which is the highest distinction of service in the Rotary Club. This award is named after the founder of Rotary.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Five members of The Rotary Club of St. Maarten Mid Isle recently returned from the Annual District 7020 Conference and President's Elect Training which was held in the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.

Attendance at this event offered the incoming president and secretaries of all Rotary clubs in the district an opportunity to learn more about Rotary and to prepare for the upcoming Rotary year which starts on July 1, 2016. PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle will be hosting their 2nd annual ‘End Polio Now’ walkathon, on October 24. The walkathon was started last year by Ramesh Manek, who was involved in a fatal hit and run. This year, the walkathon is held to honor the memory of Ramesh Manek and the contributions he made.

Over the weekend Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle participated in the Tropical Shipping Duathlon to create awareness for the Rotary End Polio Now cause.
