Justice Personnel Threaten Action If Legal Placements Not Addressed

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Personnel in the Justice Field submitted a demand letter to the Minister of Justice Juredy Dorean and the Governor of St. Maarten on Monday, January 6, claiming that if their concerns/request are not met by Monday, January 13, they would proceed with what they called “other measures.”

The issue concerns the placements of Police and Immigration officers in their legal status. The justice workers approached Police Inspector Lyndon Lewis, who has represented many of them in court, seeking his advice on how he can assist them on the pushing the justice organization forward because, according to them, the management team isn’t doing anything in getting the personnel affairs of the police force in order.

“I told them that this is not a Police/Immigration issue but a Justice issue, because the entire Justice Ministry (Customs, Coast Guards, Prison Guards and the administrative workers of those departments) are upside down with regards to the legal status of every justice department Read more

Response To Usp

The Democratic Party has been one of the longest serving parties in the history of St. Maarten.  We have had our ups and downs, but we have been there for the people of St. Maarten, now more than ever before. Our main goal was and continues to be, “how can we make our island a better place for the people of St. Maarten”.

To hear a political party, who welcomed the leader of the Democratic Party as the chairlady in one breathe and denounce her in the next, say some of the most unprofessional things is a shame to say the least.  This berating article from the USP board comes as no surprise, because the same lowdown type of message was previously shared in the NA/USP/DP coalition WhatsApp chat.

Yes, the “testicular fortitude” message from the hand of a TEATT cabinet staffer, singling out 2 leaders of the coalition and calling the other (female) leader “spineless” Read more

Police Officers In Court

PHILIPSBURG – On July 22, 2016 a group of police officers received their decrees by the Minister of Justice Edson Kirindngo during a ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Philipsburg.

When the officers took a look at their long awaited promotions, they were disappointed. The officers were taken into service early in 2012, during which period they were selected to follow the Basic Police Training (BPO).

However, the cadets were placed in the daily operation of police work instead of sitting on the benches as mentioned in their former decree, which stipulated that they were police cadets in training.

The cadets had never gotten proper training to fulfill their duties as full-fledged police officers, because management team (KPSM) claimed that there was no money in the budget for the BPO Read more
