Niaca Fest Honors Artists Of Three Generations

St. Maarten – The National Institute of arts hosts the third annual Niaca festival this Saturday at the John Larmonie Center. The highlight of the evening will be an award ceremony that honors local artists of three generations.

“The show begins at 7 p.m. It celebrates “both our traditional cultural heritage, as well as the contemporary art works created by the artists of now,” the institute writes in a press release.

Omarco unstoppable as 73 start second Red Cross Run

SIMPSON BAY—Omarco Robinson is setting his sights on the overall points win after winning Sunday’s 10.3K Run, the second of three in the Red Cross “3 For Life “ series  to add to his win in the 7K race on August 9.
  Robinson crossed the finish line in 39:51, a minute ahead of Alain Boucaud while third placed AUC student Chris Robertz finished in 42:05.
  Leading triathlete Gregory Pigeon was fourth in 42:33 and trail runner Anthony Durand took fifth place in 45:09.

Leg two of 3 For Life Run set for September 13

SIMPSON BAY—The second leg of the 3-For-Life Running Series is set for Sunday, September 13.  The second leg will start from the Red Cross building in Simpson Bay at 7:00am. Cost to enter the 10k Red Cross Youth Chapter Charity Run is US $15.
  The first leg was a 7k run August 9.  The men’s division was won by Omarco Robinson with a time of 25:54.  Birgit Van Lieshout took top honours in the women’s category at 34:11 and the Junior run was won by Kai Piscione in 33:10.

PHILIPSBURG:---- On Sunday afternoon, June 28th, around 4:30, a major fight took place at a residence on Middle Region Road. The parties involved were severely under the influence of alcohol.
During the fight a 23-year old man was stabbed in his eye with a sharp object. The victim needed to be transported to the hospital for medical assistance. The police were called and a patrol and detectives to the scene to investigate the case Read more

Car Overturns Slightly Injuring Passenger

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - On Saturday June 27th at approximately midnight police patrols and traffic department were sent to the A. J. C. Brouwers road in the vicinity of the "Look out Point" (Harold Jack) to investigate a traffic accident.

On the scene the investigating officers encountered a vehicle which had landed on its roof.

Two Injured After Traffic Accident Friday

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - On Friday June 19th at approximately 10.45 p.m. police patrols, police Traffic Department, paramedics and Fire Department were sent to the A.J.C. Brouwers road in the vicinity of the Harold Jack look-out Point for a serious traffic accident.

On the scene the investigating officers encountered a head-on collision between two private vehicles P-5934 and P-7307.

Vehicles in question were travelling in the opposite directions when they collided head on.

As a result of the impact the driver of the P-5934 remained stuck in the mangled wreckage and had to be freed using the "Jaws of Life" from the Fire Department Read more

Trapped driver cut out of vehicle in bad accident Fri

PHILIPSBURG--The trapped driver of a white Toyota Corolla had to be cut out of his vehicle, which was involved in a terrible accident on A.J.C. Brouwer Road near Harold Jack lookout point mid-evening Friday.

Harold Jack Passes Away Friday

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Well known entertainer Harold Jack passed away at the St. Maarten Medical Center on Friday afternoon.

The late Harold Jack in his later years was well known for his operation on the "look out point" from where he sold refreshments to the islands visitors who stopped at the location to take picture and enjoy the scenic view of the islands South and Western coastline including Cay Bay, Cole Bay, Simpson Bay and the Lagoon.

At the "look out point" Harold would only sell non-alcoholic beverages.
