PHILIPSBURG:--- Asked by SMN News to react to the early morning shooting that took place in the Pointe Blanche house of detention Prime Minister William Marlin said he did not have much official information on the incident. Omar Jones Shot Dead At Pointe Blanche Prison, Prosecutor And Police Tightlipped. (Updated)

POINTE BLANCHE:--- An early morning shootout at the Pointe Blanche has left one prisoner dead according to information reaching SMN News states that Omar Jones a convicted prisoner in the Vesuvius
case was shot to death inside the Pointe Blanche house of detention. Jones was serving a sentence of 29 years, nine months. The spokesman for the Public Prosecutor's Office Gino Bernadina confirmed that a shooting at the Pointe Blanche Prison has left a prisoner dead. Bernadina further stated that the prosecutors were at the Prison conducting an investigation.
Shortly after the deadly shoot-out, the police A-Team was dispatched to the Prison to assist with the investigation. The victim Omar Jones is the son of OSPP candidate Elton Jones whose older son Amador Jones was also assassinated.

Nagico Chosen To Provide Life Insurance For All Justice Dept. Staff

PHILIPSBURG – Minister of Justice Edson Kirindongo announced Wednesday, August 30, that Nagico Insurances was selected as the insurer of choice to provide Group Life Insurance for all 550 civil servants who fall under the Justice Department.

During a meeting held Wednesday, at his office, the Minister explained of the four insurance companies that participated in the bidding, they received the best package offer from Nagico. Both he and the Windward Islands Civil Servants Union (WICSU), which spearheaded the process are confident in their decision.

Registration Deadline For Calypso Competition Extended

PHILIPSBURG – During a meeting held on Tuesday, August 23, between the Calypso Organizing Committee and the Calypsonians, it was agreed that the deadline for Calypsonians to sign up and register for the 2017 Nagico Calypso competition is Thursday, September 1.

The Calypso Organizing Committee has decided to move the deadline from Thursday, September 1, to Friday, September 9, to allow those Calypsonians who missed the August 23, meeting to sign up and register on or before the new deadline.
