Coronavirus Testing Continues In Dutch Cul De Sac This Week

Flags in St. Maarten, both the Dutch and St. Maarten ones, have been flying at half-mast for more than a week now as a symbol of sympathy and solidarity in the face of the deadly corona virus COVID-19. Not every place is adhering to governments call to fly flags at half-mast. PHILIPSBURG:--- Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs made it clear in her national address on Monday, April 28th that those persons in the Dutch Quarter community that participated in the early morning lockdown Jouvert reveling will be prosecuted or fined. Jacobs said the police (ESF 5) are busy reviewing the videos and will either fine or jail those persons that participated or organized the illegal mash.

Fire Department Updates On Bush Fire Response

Mr. Clive Richardson, Chief of the Fire Department reported that the fire was large and burning uncontrollably. The fire department quickly responded, however, due to heavy winds, and the inaccessibility for the fire trucks, the responders could not reach the fire. The road was closed off, by police officers who assisted in the response. The persons living within the area were prompted to be prepared to evacuate. Residents in the area were further advised to close their windows to prevent the smoke from coming in, and use their garden hose to protect their property just in case the fire got out of hand.
