PHILIPSBURG--Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which became Tropical Storm Isaias late last night, flooded several streets and blew down fences, road signs and tree branches on a wet and windy Wednesday. Despite this minor damage, the country came through the weather system relatively unscathed.

In anticipation of heavy rains and winds blowing to tropical storm force, Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Tuesday and the country was placed under a tropical storm warning as the system was expected to develop into a tropical storm.

Tropical Storm Warning Discontinued. Thursday Regular Business Day.

PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM:---  The Tropical Storm Warning has been discontinued as of 5.00 AM. Today, Thursday is a regular business day for the private sector.

Government services will also resume as normal and the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Rodolphe Samuel, stated on Thursday that the scheduled examinations will continue.

Prime Minister and Chair of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Silveria Jacobs said early Thursday morning that the weather system which passed Sint Maarten on Wednesday has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Isaias but poses no immediate threat to the island, however the population should continue to monitor and remain vigilant while going about your day as rainfall is expected.

At 5.00AM the storm was located more than 300 miles west southwest of Sint Maarten and continues to move further away.

El Coe Se Rene Para Discutir El Desarrollo Del Sistema Climtico Al Este De Las Antillas Menores

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – El lunes por la tarde, La Primera Ministra Silveria Jacobs convoc una reunin del Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia (COE) en el Edificio de Administracin del Gobierno (GAB) con las 10 Funciones de Apoyo de Emergencia (FSE) para discutir un sistema meteorolgico en desarrollo actualmente al este de las Antillas Menores.

Aunque el EOC no se activ, el Primer Ministro quera que cada FSE proporcionara una actualizacin con respecto a su estado de preparacin para la temporada de huracanes del Atlntico 2020 y, en particular, el sistema meteorolgico que se aproxima.

La Primera Ministra y presidente del COE, Jacobs, hace un llamado a los residentes para que supervisen de cerca el progreso del sistema.

Segn la informacin compartida en la reunin, el martes por la tarde se har ms claro cmo se desarrollar el sistema meteorolgico, ya sea en una depresin tropical o tormenta tropical.

La informacin adicional se dar a conocer al pblico durante la tarde del martes en funcin del anlisis ms reciente del clima.

Segn el Departamento Meteorolgico de Sint Maarten (MDS), se pronostica que el sistema de baja presin comenzar a afectar partes de las Antillas Menores el mircoles o mircoles por la noche.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – About 30 representatives of the bar, restaurant, casino and night life industry met on Monday to discuss implementing stricter COVID-19 measures and formalising an association for legally established industry members.

The bar, nightlife, restaurant and casino industry had come under scrutiny after an unsubstantiated recent viral message claimed that a cluster of COVID-19 infected persons was identified at a local club.
Images of filled-to-capicity entertainment venues also surfaced online resulting in increased public scrutiny.
While acknowledging that some in their industry can and should do better, the business owners stressed that most establishments have COVID-19 measures in place and is willing to do more to protect their patrons and the general public.

Eoc Meets To Discuss Developing Weather System East Of The Lesser Antilles

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) On Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Hon. Silveria Jacobs convened a meeting of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the Government Administration Building (GAB) with the 10 Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) to discuss a developing weather system currently east of the Lesser Antilles.

Even though the EOC was not activated, the Prime Minister wanted each ESF to give an update with respect to their status of preparations and readiness for the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season and in particular the approaching weather system.   

Chair of the EOC Prime Minister Jacobs, is calling on residents to closely monitor the systems progress.

Based on information shared at the meeting, it will become clearer on Tuesday afternoon how the weather system will develop, whether into a tropical depression or tropical storm.

Additional information will be released to the public during the latter part of Tuesday based on the most recent analysis of the weather.

According to the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS), the low-pressure system is forecast to begin affecting portions of the Lesser Antilles on Wednesday or Wednesday night.

Based on Mondays information, it was difficult to assess whether there would be any type of damage, but could expect heavy rains and possibly winds, and therefore the public should be prepared to take action.
