~ Union will work with incoming minister ~

PHILIPSBURG--The failure of government to ratify and introduce the new police structure almost four years since St. Maarten assumed its new constitutional structure has resulted in "instability, unrest and infighting" between personnel in the Police Force, says NAPB police union president Ethelwoldus Josepha.

NAPB has been lobbying for a number of benefits and rights for officers over the years with little progress, but Josepha said the union would be working with whoever the incoming minister and relevant officials would be.

"Over the last four years, different meetings were kept with the two different ministers of justice with the idea to have the police structure ratified and implemented Read more

Integrity Report Presents Scathing Assessment – St. Maarten Parliament Under Fire

St. Maarten – Many within and outside of Parliament doubt whether the important task of this institution is currently executed adequately. That is the mildest remark in the integrity report of the Wit Committee about the functioning of St. Maarten’s Parliament. The report contains a scathing analysis of the way the fifteen parliamentarians do their job. Unnecessary trips abroad and absence from meetings are only a tip of the iceberg.

The Wit Committee notes that evaluating the Parliament is not a specific part of its task, but it adds that integrity in the public administration cannot be discussed in its entirety without involving the Parliament.

“The public debate about the functioning of Parliament is so critical that a serious evaluation in the Parliament would benefit the authority of this institution,” the report states Read more

PHILIPSBURG:--- Having been in courts already three (3) times to defend myself on the matter surrounding my settlement package as the former Director for Postal Services St. Maarten NV (PSS) Office, both Government and PSS are taking me back to courts for a fourth time. To date I have been able to win all the preceding cases, with favorable rulings in the first two cases outright, and with the third case, a silent victory, as it was dropped at the eleventh hour prior to the deadline for submitting pleadings, as both Government and PSS realized they could not win and did not have a case to make or defend in the appellate court against my person Read more
