After careful consideration during this delicate time and after close consultation with the many who keep St. Maartens best interests at heart, I decided to accept the parliamentary seat in accordance with article 105, paragraph 2 of the Electoral Ordinance, Minister De Weever stated.

Minister De Weever Shifts Focus To Parliament

~ Looks forward to working as legislator ~

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic, and Transportation (TEATT) Ludmila de Weever has decided to take up her seat in Parliament. After careful consideration during this delicate time and after close consultation with the many who keep St. Maartens best interests at heart, I decided to accept the parliamentary seat in accordance with article 105, paragraph 2 of the Electoral Ordinance, MinisterDe Weever stated.

On April 21st, the Central Voting Bureau (CVB) informed the Minister that she was elected to Parliament and had the option of choosing to take up her seat. Minister De Weever notified the United Peoples (UP) party, the Prime Minister, as well as the CVB yesterday of her intention to move to Parliament and take up a productive and active role in the legislative branch of government.

Ministries Teatt, Vsa Meet With Business Sector Reps To Ramp Up Vaccination Campaign For Quicker Economic Recovery

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten  As part of the countrys economic recovery efforts, representatives of the Ministries of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) and the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), recently held a virtual meeting with a majority of the tourism industrys stakeholders to discuss how to further profile the importance of the countrysvaccination campaign, the latter, seen as a key instrument in the further economic recovery of the nation. 

The goal is to vaccinate at least 70% of the local population by June 1st in order to achieve what epidemiologists refer to as herd immunity, i.e., where a sufficient number of people in a community become immune to an infectious disease.

Ministries Teatt, Vsa And Justice To Step Up Controls To Ensure Adherence To Covid-19 Public Health & Safety Protocols

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications(Ministry of TEATT), Ludmila de Weever,said over the weekend, that the Ministries TEATT, theMinistry of Public Health, Social Development andLabour(Ministry of VSA),and the Ministry of Justice,will be stepping up controls of businesses making sure that they are adhering to the COVID-19 public health and safety protocols.

The aforementioned directive came out of an emergency Council of Ministers meeting on Good Friday, April 2nd that was called as a result of a major COVID-19 outbreak in the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao).

The UK variant of the COVID-19 virus is wreaking havoc on the ABC islands, forcing Sint Maarten to place travel restrictions as of April 5 in order to protect the local population. There are various variants circulating on the island including the UK variant. On Saturday, Curacao reported over 4000 active COVID-19 cases, 120 persons hospitalized, 44 of them in the Intensive Care Unit, and a death toll of 44 persons.
