Nagico's Little Stars - Back To School Campaign

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Eight (8) students from the Dr. Martin Luther King School in Dutch Quarter, were named the Nagico Little Stars for the 2014- 2015 school year.

The NAGICO Little Stars project, grants the top performer in every grade within the school a scholarship for the next school term, which consists of a fully paid tuition fee for one school year and a voucher to cover the costs of school supplies; including books and school uniforms for the next school term.

The students chosen were the top performers in their respective groups, who excelled in academics, attendance and their overall behavior throughout the school year.

The selection process which was done by the teachers and principal of the MLK School was also observed and vetted by a representative of NAGICO Insurances for transparency reasons.

Council Of Ministers Meets With Pss Board Of Supervisory Directors And Management

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – In accordance with the current Governing Accord, the Council of Ministers (COM) met with the Supervisory Board and Management of the Postal Services St. Maarten (PSS).

The meeting was requested by the Interim Managing Director to discuss some urgent matters.

Up to this date, COM has conducted several shareholders meetings with supervisory boards and management among which were TelEm, NV GEBE, St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies, and the Holding Company of Princess Juliana International Airport.

It is the intention to schedule additional meetings with the other Government owned companies in the coming weeks and months.

Mlk Host Mock Election

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - This week students of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School were given the opportunity to cast their ballots in a 'mock election', which was part of the Project Approach on Citizenship/Government.

The Cycle 2 year 2 students along with their classroom Teacher Tracy Joseph worked diligently to create manifestos which highlighted the goals each party expected to achieve if they win the election.

The aim of this project was to enable students to be active learners as they demonstrate an understanding of some fundamental rights of the Dutch citizen, that is, the right to vote and be voted for.

This activity also developed awareness of the election process and how a government is formed.

Mlk Attends Opera Concert

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Some of the students of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School attended a special school opera concert this morning which was hosted by the Foundation Classical Delight.

The Foundation Classical Delight is a non-profit organization established with the purpose of bringing classical music to our island. They invite annually professional, gifted and sometimes famous musicians to perform.

Getting the students acquainted with classical music is part of children's education and often highly appreciated by them.
