PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM):--- On Thursday afternoon after 4.00 pm, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was deactivated by the Prime Minister and Chair of the EOC Silveria Jacobs.

Tropical Storm Warning Discontinued. Thursday Regular Business Day.

PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM:---  The Tropical Storm Warning has been discontinued as of 5.00 AM. Today, Thursday is a regular business day for the private sector.

Government services will also resume as normal and the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Rodolphe Samuel, stated on Thursday that the scheduled examinations will continue.

Prime Minister and Chair of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Silveria Jacobs said early Thursday morning that the weather system which passed Sint Maarten on Wednesday has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Isaias but poses no immediate threat to the island, however the population should continue to monitor and remain vigilant while going about your day as rainfall is expected.

At 5.00AM the storm was located more than 300 miles west southwest of Sint Maarten and continues to move further away.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of TEATT Ludmilla de Weever announced at the Council of Ministers press briefing that the government of St. Maarten will go ahead and reopen its borders (Princess Juliana International Airport ) as of August 1st to flights coming from US ports. Night Life Industry Develop New Covid Protocol, Will Present To Govt. .

PHILIPSBURG:--- About 30 representatives of the bar, restaurant, casino, and nightlife industry met on Monday to discuss implementing stricter COVID-19 measures and formalizing an association for legally established industry members.

The bar, nightlife, restaurant, and casino industry had come under scrutiny after an unsubstantiated recent viral message claimed that a cluster of COVID-19 infected persons was identified at a local club.

Images of filled-to-capacity entertainment venues also surfaced online resulting in increased public scrutiny.

While acknowledging that some in their industry can and should do better, the business owners stressed that most establishments have COVID-19 measures in place and is willing to do more to protect their patrons and the general public.

In that context, the business owners agreed to develop a new protocol and implement additional measures which they will also present officially to Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs and Minister of Health Richard Panneflek and hope to secure their support on such.
