St. Maarten To Participate In Inter-Insel Air School Sports

PHILIPSBURG – For the first time, St. Maarten has been invited to participate in the Inter-Insel Air School Sports competition.

Minister of Sports Silveria Jacobs told the media Wednesday, February 24, that this competition provides opportunities for student athletes in St. Maarten to compete on a regional level.

A team of elementary school basketballers and a secondary school level female volleyball team will be leaving the island on March 10, to participate in the competition.

“The Department (of Sports) sees that this is great opportunity of not only developing school sports, promoting team spirit and participation and pride in oneself, but also to provide the opportunity to the student athletes to participate on a regional level,” Minister Jacobs said at Wednesday’s Council of Ministers press conference.

Education Minister Commends On-The-Job Teacher Training

PHILIPSBURG – The first phase of a teacher support program was concluded recently, Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs disclosed Wednesday, February 24.

The Minister, speaking at the weekly Council of Ministers press briefing, asserted government’s support for on-the-job training for teachers and school staff. The Minister noted that the first phase involved the Seventh Day Adventist School, Hillside Christian School and the Public Elementary Schools with training on special needs students.

Minister Of Education, Culture, Youth And Sports Silveria Jacobs Extends Congratulations

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — on behalf of the government and entire community of St. Maarten to Keacy Carty and the West Indies U19 team on the West Indies win in the U19 World Cup Cricket finals Sunday morning in Bangladesh.

The team surpassed expectations by reaching the finals, defeating the home team of Bangladesh on Thursday.  They faced favorite India in the finals but were able to secure the win with 52 runs not out batted in by our very own St. Maarten star Keacy Carty.
