Mp George Pantophlet- What Is The Fuss.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Member of Parliament George Pantophlet is asking the people of St. Maarten to allow him this brief distraction from his quest for debt cancellation, to address a very serious matter.

MP Pantophlet thought he misread the paragraph of an article appearing in The Daily Herald newspaper on Thursday entitled Sarah: Civil Code does not contain amendments made by Parliament.

What caught the MPs attention was the phrase: Then there is this constant fuss in Parliament about an initiative law amendment of 2011 by the NA [National Alliance] faction to address short term labor contracts that – in view of some MPs -is being frustrated.

After reading this, MP Pantophlet looked up the meaning of the word ‘fuss’ Read more

Government Hiding Behind Corporate Governance And Shunning Its Role As Sole Shareholder.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten The letter by the Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Region of the World Bank, regarding PJIA Holding Boards alleged intention to dismiss PJIAs Managing Director, Brian Mingo does not come as a surprise. In fact, had nothing been said by those involved in the reconstruction and financing of the Princess Juliana International Airport when the Holdings intention was made public, that would have been worrisome, said MP Sarah Wescot-Williams in a recent statement.

I have publicly questioned the motives of the Government and the Holding Board of the Airport on this matter and I cautioned that this could have an adverse effect, especially given the manner in which this affair played out in  public Read more

Social And Political Dialogue On Country Package Missing

Philipsburg, St. Maarten, 20 January 2021   Not only has the agreement for the country package  been signed, but the Government has also announced the organization that it has put in place to guide St. Maarten’s part in the agreement. What will follow now is the so-called implementation plans, although items in the country package are already being worked on. Case in point,  we  see from a meeting of the four Ministers of Justice that it has been concluded that matters raised in the country package will be executed.  So it is not as if everything is on hold until there are implementation plans.  It is therefore paramount that the officially signed documents between the Dutch and St Read more
