Fake News On Social Media Ignited Protest In Sandy Ground Says Prefet.

MARIGOT:--- On Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning violence broke out in Sandy Ground after a video was posted on social media and various WhatsApp groups implicating the Gendarmes in a motorcycle accident that injured a young man that was riding a scooter.
The video that was posted accused the gendarmes of running over the young man it also went on to state that the young rider was in a coma, all of which were false information. All of the false information posted on social media is the cause of the violence in Sandy Ground.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Prefet Vincent Berton said because of the false information he said that four vehicles were burned, three businesses vandalized, and two vehicles belonging to the Gendarmes were also damaged while a senior officer was also injured.

The Collectivity of Saint-Martin, under the leadership of President Louis Mussington and his team, is launching a major collective clean-up from July 8 to August 8, 2022, in all the districts of Saint-Martin.
The Collectivity wishes to clean up the territory before the high hurricane season and is asking the population to join in this effort by cleaning up the private domain and evacuating its bulky items to the side of the road.
During this period, the services of the Collectivity and service providers will collect these bulky items as they are deposited on the side of the roads.

Marigot:--- The current opposition Territorial Council members will lose a number of rights since neither of the two opposition parties has enough seats in the council to form a group. The law requires that a group must have 5 seats in order for them to gain certain benefits which are paid by the Collectivity.
