First Anniversary of ACHA

Acha will be holding another interesting and informative program at Philipsburg Jubilee Library this evening, April 9, at 7:00-9:00.

The program includes the singing of the St. Maarten song by Ifelola Badejo before the welcome introduction to ACHA where Drs. Okama Ekpe Brook will speak about positively reconnecting the Caribbean with Africa and the vision of ACHA.

There will be a summary of activities and upcoming events throughout the year as well as a poem by Julie Alcin. The key note speech – "The Role of Africans in the Caribbean - Anthropological and Archaeological Perspective" – will be given by Richenel Ansano from Curaçao. Rhoda Arrindell, Roland M. Joe, Ralph Cantave and Francio Guadeloupe will participate in a panel discussion with Fabian Adekunle Badejo as moderator.

The ACHA contest entries will be presented: Performing arts, visual arts and essay. Awards of certificates to the successful applicants will be presented by Sint Maarten Governor His Excellency Governor Eugene B. Holiday, UNESCO St. Maarten Secretary General Marcellia Henry, Library Director Monique Alberts and ACHA President Okama Ekpe Brook.

There will be some cultural entertainment and Soca Jumbie by King Vers. There will also be time for a bit of networking, socializing and some delicious refreshments at the end of the presentation.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for all who are interested in bringing the roots between the Caribbean and Africa closer together.
