Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
Dear Editor,
No matter how much a person tries to dodge the truth, his conscience always finds a way to expose it, and most certainly, at a time when he least expects. It was an incredible moment to hear the USP leader spoke so passionately about the importance of team effort, and that, the catalyst behind him obtaining a Parliamentary seat, is solely credited to the input of his entire party. Yes people, the information came directly from the horse's mouth and there couldn't have been a more opportune time to reflect on the saying, "Confession is good for the soul."
MP Frans Richardson has acknowledged publicly, that unity is the strength of any organization. In other words, it is all about everybody working together to achieve one common goal. Then, how come he holds this principle so dear, when it pertains to his own party but totally disregarded this same code of ethics when he ran on the slate of the National Alliance, September of 2010? For me, this is hypocrisy to the highest degree because this outcry to the public is just a way to release some of the excruciating pain that he bore when his number two candidate followed directly in his footsteps. Now he truly knows what it feels like to have hurt the team of the NA, who got him to the place where he could have established his own party.
There is nothing worse than when a person's word does not correlate with his actions. To highlight the inefficiencies of his number two candidate and that of the UPP leader at this time, is nothing more than an attempt to shift the focus off him. This complete lock-down of the island cannot be blamed entirely on the UPP leader alone because this political crisis did not start after this election. What is happening now is that the situation got festered and the pus is running. But believe it or not, this mess started when the former MP of the National Alliance jumped ship, almost immediately after the first government was formed on 10-10-10. Then who was the second MP to emulate him, which was, and still is considered to be a total disrespect and lack of integrity for the people of this island? It was the same USP leader, the one who strongly opposes the decisions of his number two candidate and that of the UPP leader.
This is the colourful picture of the political arena, painted by politicians whose word is not their bond. I have said repeatedly, that the MP's who refer to themselves as Independents, are indeed the trouble makers and the ones who are preventing the island from moving forward. MP Frans Richardson, be fair, by going back to the seed that was planted by the former MP, who hit International news and brought shame to the entire Kingdom. Likewise, a true leader does not abandon his team from one day to the next, even if he wants to establish his own party. There is an art of doing so. This is food for thought. MP Frans Richardson must always remember that it was the efforts of the entire previous team that got him to where he is today.
