Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
SIMPSON BAY--Nature Foundation focused on the removal of wrecks and major garbage from Simpson Bay lagoon during Saturday’s lagoon cleanup organised by the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI together with St. Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA).
With the assistance of the Maritime Affairs Department many wrecks were removed within the lagoon, including those which were damaged by Hurricane Gonzalo and were wrecked to the side of the airport road.
The foundation and other organisers HOPE the clean-up will become an annual event and all stakeholders of the lagoon can come together to prepare for the start of the yachting season.
SMMTA President Brian Deher estimated that some 30 volunteers from, among others, marine industry, Princess Juliana International Airport Sxm, Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority, Environmental Organization EPIC, and residents took part in the cleanup.
VROMI Minister Maurice Lake thanked all stakeholders and volunteers who were part of the lagoon cleanup for “a job well done.â€
