Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG – The board of the National Sports Institute (NSI) introduced to the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Silveria Jacobs, the new NSI Director David Forsythe, on Thursday, June 2, at the Cabinet of the Minister.
The NSI is the executing arm of Government in the area of Sports, and is responsible for the management and maintenance of Government’s sports facilities, and the development of Sports programs in St. Maarten.
The board recently hired Forsythe, and on behalf of the Foundation, he will be responsible for the development of sports in the various districts of St. Maarten. In introducing the new Director, Chairperson of the Managing Board Daniel Berry highlighted the challenge that was ahead of them, and the expectations that the board has for Forsythe.
Present at the introductory meeting, along with Minister Jacobs, was Department Head of Sports Jonelle Richardson, Supervisory Board Member Rignald Eugenio and Board Members Steven Constance, Michael van Grieken and Gina Illidge.
Following the introduction of Forsythe, Minister Jacobs commended the Board for the long awaited installation of the Director, congratulated Forsythe, and highlighted some of the areas that were important to the development of sports; namely the development of after school programs, increased participation in sports, and the importance of increased awareness of proper health checks before engaging in sports.
Finally, Forsythe stated that he was happy to be part of the NSI team, and was looking forward to the tasks and challenges ahead of him. He outlined some of the areas that he had already started working on, namely facility management and sports programming.
