Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG--A copy of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between government and Keaton Corporation for the Miami 2 St. Maarten Showdown featuring a boxing card of Roy Jones Jr. versus Danny Santiago is still being sought by Democratic Party ((DP)) Member of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams.
The MP requested the copy via letter on September 2, to Finance Minister Martin Hassink and then Tourism Minister Claret Connor. She is still waiting on an answer.
The MP said in a press statement Thursday that government, via the Department of Communication, “quietly†announced the postponement of the boxing card. The postponement of the match was tagged to the passing of Hurricane Danny at the end of August.
Government, according to the MP, entered into the MOU for a total of US $185,000.
The MP said she wants the MOU before asking government further questions about its role in bringing the fight to St. Maarten. “What government needs to explain firstly is whether the US $185,000 was paid out and if this money was taken from the tourism promotion budget,†she said.
