Mark Your Calendar For The Next Breast Abnormalities Screening For June 24

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Saturday, June 17, marked the first day of a two-year breast abnormalities screening survey where 23 women participated in the screening.

The women took the opportunity to pass by the Vineyard Office Park Building in Philipsburg at the Collective Preventive Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), to take part in the survey.

“Congratulation to the women who came out and who have already registered to pass by during theSaturday screenings.  I compliment them for their participation as this is a very important screening for women’s health.

“Minister of Public Health Emil Lee and the Acting Secretary General of Ministry VSA Joy Arnell also visited the screening activity on Saturday.

One Killed, Another Injured In Shooting Incident

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent – A Green Hill man died in hospital Friday afternoon shortly after being shot in Kingstown, while another man has been hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred on McCoy Street in the capital.

A source close to his family said the dead man is Kemel Peters.

Peters survived a shooting incident just under a year ago.

Pond Island:----Budding artist, Nerissa Brooks, has used her love of art to capture the TelEm Group building on canvas for everyone to see.
Ten-year-old Nerissa is the daughter of TelEm Group Human Resources & Development Assistant, Carmita Brooks. According to mum, Nerissa considers the building her home away from home and her daughter thought it fitting to present her work to the management of TelEm Group during a brief ceremony last Wednesday.
The painting is a bold and bright representation of the company building on Pond Island in brilliant red and white against a deep blue sky with fluffy clouds ahead.
Nerissa admits to wanting to give up on the piece on several occasions, especially when she labored over getting the softness of the clouds, just right.

“My fingers and my hands were hurting me so much,” said the young artist, who also credited her mother and her art teacher Tess Verheij for encouraging and inspiring her to continue until the painting was completed.

THE HAGUE:--- On June 16th the Minister Plenipotentiary, Henrietta Doran-York, met with the Head of the Taskforce for the United Nations Security Council, Ms. Marriët Schuurman.

In their meeting, discussions centered around the very important subject of the preparations for the year 2018, in which the Kingdom of the Netherlands will hold a seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Minister Doran-York, expressed to the Taskforce, that the Caribbean of the Dutch Kingdom, should be better represented and more visible during this tenure, as that is not so much the case at this moment.

The Minister also put great emphasis on the topic of climate and security, especially where it pertains to the Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

In the near future, the effect that climate change has on policy making in the area of security and conflict prevention will only be enhanced, the Minister stated.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Ministry of VSA has the responsibility to ensure that the drinking water that is being delivered to the community is safe. Yesterday, the Inspectorate released a statement “Indeed some hotels on the Island have tested positive for legionella which can happen due to various causes. Those that were tested positive do have a program to follow to ensure that contamination is contained and prevented.
