PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry (COCI) is in the final phase after steering the process leading to the establishment of the Soualiga Employer Association (SEA).
The establishment of the SEA is part of the process of nominating various representatives to the high council of state the Social Economic Council (SER). A list of names will be submitted to the Prime Minister hopefully by the end of the week of September 7.
President of the COCI Supervisory Board Benjamin Ortega said on Friday that COCI was mandated by the Prime Minister back in April and given the task to follow a legally and sound process where names would be submitted to fill the positions on the SER based on the establishment of an umbrella employer organization to ensure a better representation of employers organizations on the board of the SER.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten Earlier this year, on Tuesday, February 25 th , 2020, a covenant was signed between the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutors Office, the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM), and Foundation Judicial Institute St. Maarten (SJIB) in order to facilitate electronic monitoring (EM) in the justice system.

This form of digital incarceration is one where electronic ankle bracelets are used to monitor the movements of detainees who are granted temporary release. These electronic ankle bracelets have been used on nine occasions since March of 2020 and brought much-needed relief to the capacity of the Point Blanche Prison and House of Detention.

St. Peters On Saturday, August 29, 2020, thirty-two families received two bags of groceries, bottled water, face masks and COVID-19 awareness pamphlets compliments of Hyacinth Richardson Educational Awareness Foundation and Secours Populaire Franais.

Four Employees Test Positive At Postal Services; Operations Scaled Back.

PHILIPSBURG:--- A total of four employees of the Postal Services St. Maarten (PSS) has now been tested positive. Interim Managing Director of PSS N.V., Marinka Gumbs stated that management has taken additional precautionary measures since the closure of the offices on August 24, 2020, when the first case was reported.
