PHILIPSBURG:--- St. Maartens primary telecommunication provider, TelEm Group, is responding positively to its new role in the St. Maarten community - Virtual classroom provider.

 TelEm Group recently upgraded five public schools with an unprecedented internet connection package specially created for schools on the island, so that teachers can connect with students in remote classroom scenarios.

According to TelEm Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Mr. Michiel Parent, the key to the upgrades are faster upload speeds that enable students to receive instruction in real-time and also interact with their teachers.

Pfp Concerned About Plan B And Economic Recovery

PHILIPSBURG Party for Progress Members of Parliament Melissa Gumbs and Raeyhon Peterson issued a press release on Thursday, expressing their concern over responses received to questions sent to the Prime Minister, particularly those related to Governments much-discussed plan B.

The faction noted that they had submitted questions to the Prime Minister regarding the ongoing discussion with the Kingdom Government over support for the country, the economic recovery plan (which was requested by Parliament on July 8th and what was in Governments plan B.

CountryS Covid-19 Cases Now At 253

PHILIPSBURG--Ten new positive COVID-19 cases have been recorded for St. Maarten as of Tuesday, August 25, bringing the total number of active cases to 253.

The total number of positive cases for the country is now 418.

Collective Prevention Services (CPS) is currently monitoring 244 persons in home isolation. Eight patients remain hospitalised at St. Maarten Medical Center and one patient is isolated and being monitored. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at 17. The number of recovered is now at 148, with one additional recovered person recorded.

There are now 465 persons currently in quarantine based on contact-tracing investigations carried out by CPS of persons who may have been in contact with any of the active cases.

CPS has tested 699 travellers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and 1,506 persons throughout the community Read more

Business Hours May Resume To Normal By August 31St.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of TEATT Ludmilla de Weever shed some light when asked about the second Ministerial Decree that was made for the Kim Sha vendors that must close their businesses by 10 pm.
Minister de Weever said the businesses at Kim Sha beach were not covered in the first Ministerial Decree since they were established on special conditions therefore the second MB was needed and had to be backdated.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry (COCI) Board and representatives from the Chambre Consulaire Interprofessionnelle de Saint Martin (CCISM), have sent a joint letter to the Governments, Parliament and Territorial Council of Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin with respect to the border closure that is having a negative impact on the economy of the island.

Part of the joint letter reads as follows: COVID-19 will never be snuffed out in our territory without joint actions by all stakeholders that are being severely impacted.  We will have to bear for a long time, the presence of the COVID-19 virus on our territory and closing the border will not stop the virus from circulating throughout our communities.
