Mp Bucamper Suggests Stiffer Penalties For Convicted Sexual Abusers

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – With the surfacing of yet another case of alleged sexual abuse of minors, MP Claudius Toontje Buncamper of the USP faction in parliament expresses his concerns with the unwarranted incident.

What is frightening is that people in whom parents place their trust with their children are often the ones suspected of these crimes MP Buncamper noted. The penalty for those found guilty of such heinous crimes are often found to be too lenient to society, considering that their victim(s) is/are scarred for life. Buncamper insists that: Stiffer penalties must be applied to those convicted of rape, child abuse, making and distribution of child pornography. The possibility exists that pedophiles maybe walking around us in our midst, holding jobs that require them to interact with children. MP Buncamper says that he will support a screening method to determine if an applicant applying for a job that involves interaction with children has a record of abusing children. He disclosed that former Member of Parliament (MP) Tamara Leonard started the process to amend the laws regarding child abuse and rape Read more

Organized Confusion The At The PeopleS Expense

Dear Editor,

In the midst of the high level of confusion around the play on words like trajectory, the constant repositioning of this governing coalition with regards to COHO, the petition to the United Nations and continued liquidity support, one thing remains glaringly constant: The everyday plight and hopelessness felt by the average citizens of this country.

The obvious lack of strategic planning with regards to the petition to the U.N. and the seemingly unprepared demeanor for responses of State Secretary Knops, hit this coalition like a deer caught in the headlights of an eighteen wheeler container truck Read more

Mp George Pantophlet: To Shut Down Or Not To Shut Down.

Recently, I have taken note of some developments on St. Maarten. The most recent one being the shortening of opening hours for nighttime entertainment clubs, bars, restaurants etc. This has brought some thoughts to mind and I will express them via this article. Please note that this is my personal opinion on the matter.

One thing I have learned is that some people will do whatever they want to do without looking at the consequences. What makes matters worse is that their actions can be extremely harmful and even cause death to others Read more

Szv Urges Compliance Businesses Have To Pay Premiums Or Make Contact

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten Social and health Insurance provider SZV has seen a drop of some NAf 4 million per month in premiums since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. This constitutes a significant loss for the solidarity fund that is built on a pay-as-you-go system that pays for the health care costs of all insured clients.

In spite of the drop in premiums, SZV is so far keeping pace with the needs of its clients. The decline in overseas medical referrals due to the pandemic has also helped as well as the availability of more treatments and specialists locally.

SZV has also seen the deregistration of some 4,000 jobs since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 to December 2020 Read more
