PHILIPSBURG:--- The staff of the Marie Genevieve de Weever Primary School recently had an informative session with Communications Coordinator Bart van der Meijden of the White Yellow Cross Care Foundation. The purpose of the informative session during the second staff meeting for this month was to apprise them of the COVID-19 vaccine program.

There is a lot of myths circulating around the island especially via social media and it's imperative that our staff gets first-hand information, remarked Stuart Johnson School Manager of the Marie Genevieve de Weever Primary School.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, the Honourable Richard Panneflek, recently met with the newly appointed Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, Mr. Dennis Zulu, and his support staff.

Minister Pannefleks discussions centered around the impact of COVID-19 on the labour market, the measures taken by the government of Sint Maarten to mitigate the spread, as well as the stimulus plan to assist those affected.

The Director shared recent developments the ILO is undertaking with other Caribbean countries within the region regarding the impact that COVID-19 is having on their respective labour markets and how the ILO can provide the necessary technical assistance which would result in labour markets becoming more resilient and robust.

Ministries Teatt, Vsa Meet With Business Sector Reps To Ramp Up Vaccination Campaign For Quicker Economic Recovery

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten  As part of the countrys economic recovery efforts, representatives of the Ministries of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) and the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), recently held a virtual meeting with a majority of the tourism industrys stakeholders to discuss how to further profile the importance of the countrysvaccination campaign, the latter, seen as a key instrument in the further economic recovery of the nation. 

The goal is to vaccinate at least 70% of the local population by June 1st in order to achieve what epidemiologists refer to as herd immunity, i.e., where a sufficient number of people in a community become immune to an infectious disease.
