Ministers Meet In New Building

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - On Thursday, September 19, the Council of Ministers convened their first Council of Ministers meeting since moving into the New Government Administration Building at Soualiga Road. The inauguration of the Building took place on Friday September 16. Parties, Candidates Raise Issue With 200M Rule

PHILIPSBURG – Some parties and candidates have an issue with the supposed change of rule that allowed political parties and candidates to visit the polling station to campaign on Election Day.

Prime Minister William Marlin raised alarm about some political parties not adhering to the rules of polling day, which prohibit candidates or supporters to approach a polling station within 200m to campaign.

Speaking just after casting his ballot at the Milton Peters College (MPC), the Prime Minister suggested that the UP Party had persons at all the polling stations, even at the door.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The two political parties that got five seats each in parliament did not waste any time in forming a government. The leaders and deputy leaders of the two parties namely William Marlin and Silveria Jacobs from the National Alliance along with Theodore Heyliger and Franklin Meyers from the United Peoples Party signed a coalition agreement shortly after the results were announced.

PHILIPSBURG--The fate of the country of St. Maarten, just two weeks shy of its sixth birthday, and its 59,800 plus residents from more than 115 countries lies in the hands of 22,302 people. Those voters, privileged by birth or naturalisation with the Dutch nationality, head to the polls today, Election Day, to cast their ballots for one of the 125 candidates across the slates of nine political parties.

PHILIPSBURG:--- A group of Attorneys headed by Gerald Hatzmaan showed up shortly before the opening ceremony at the New Government building began demanding to see the Minster of Justice Edison Kirindongo whom they said they had an appointment with for 9am Friday morning at his A.T. Illidge Road office but the Minister of Justice never showed up for the meeting. The lawyers marched through the gathering in their court gowns and stood at the entrance in front of all the invited guests as they waited for the Minister of Justice to meet with them.

PHILIPSBURG: --- The tripartite, consisting of the St. Maarten Medical Center, USZV, and the government of St. Maarten signed the Design, Build and Management contract with the contractor INSO on Monday. Philipsburg – Prime Minister Marlin was given the opportunity to address attendees which included parents, students and CBA’s faculty and staff informing all in attendance of his plans to assist the school.

With the plight of the academy having to relinquish their occupancy at the University of Sint Martin by October’s end, Ms. Claudette Labega of CBA’s board approached Prime Minister Marlin seeking his assistance for a possible solution.

Prime Minister Marlin stated that with the Council of Ministers and their staff being moved to the new Government Administration Building within the coming weeks, a decision was made to allow the temporary use of the upper level of the Government Building to be temporarily used by the Charlotte Brookson Academy to conduct their daily classes.
