Without a doubt, the majority of people will recognize the importance of education for the St. Maarten society, but who exactly are these people providing the education? >PHILIPSBURG: --- The entertainment industry on St. Maarten is surely seeing some movements yet again.

Stuart Johnson has officially taken up the responsibility of being Manager for X-plosion Band. A well known St.Maarten band with endless hits is busy restructuring for a "epic come back."

"I feel humbled and honored to become a manager for a band that is no stranger to St.Maarten, the region and around the world," Johnson stated.

Johnson resigned from his post of Manager of the junior carnival band 4M HD a couple weeks ago.

"In a few days we will be releasing new songs as our commitment to the local music industry which is year round and not only during carnival time," Johnson added.

Johnson's role as manager is further supported by well-known local singer Theo De Weever who will work with him to manage the band.

Johnson added, "Theo is a dynamic singer who knows music first hand from his many performances and I'm glad he accepted the opportunity from me to co-manage the band."

The students chosen were the top performers in their respective groups, who excelled in academics, attendance and their overall behavior throughout the school year.

Ground broken for MLK’s playground

DUTCH QUARTER--A fully fledged playground for Martin Luther King (MLK) School pupils is that much closer to being realised; a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony was held at the heart of the school Friday morning to mark the occasion, amongst school management, staff and pupils, Division for Public Education (DPE) representatives and Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs Rita Bourne-Gumbs.

The playground is meant for the school's Cycle 1 pupils and was largely made possible through the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) and through fundraising at last year's pre-Father's day Bingo in particular, amongst some other initiatives.

School Manager Stuart Johnson proudly shared that the initiative was supported by staff, pupils and the community at large and that the playground will be the largest in the district and the first of its kind amongst the public schools.

Stuart Johnson currently the vice-chairman has been unanimously chosen by the entire SBD to become the second Chairman of the board since its October 2010 inception.

The aim of this project was to enable students to be active learners as they demonstrate an understanding of some fundamental rights of the Dutch citizen, that is, the right to vote and be voted for.

Mlk Attends Opera Concert

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Some of the students of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School attended a special school opera concert this morning which was hosted by the Foundation Classical Delight.

The Foundation Classical Delight is a non-profit organization established with the purpose of bringing classical music to our island. They invite annually professional, gifted and sometimes famous musicians to perform.

Getting the students acquainted with classical music is part of children's education and often highly appreciated by them.

Colombia’s Maria Lopes-Perez is Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2015

MAHO--Maria Alejandra Lopez-Perez from Colombia was selected Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2015 on Saturday evening at Casino Royale in Maho. The beautiful Colombian, who was also Miss Pan-America in 2013, beat eight other contestants for the crown.
