Police Unions Reaction Regarding The Ongoing Matter Of The Police Workers

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Friday, April 14, 2023, the entire Council of Ministers of the Government of Sint Maarten, including the Honorable Minister of Justice Anna E. Richardson and the Prime Minister, Honorable Ms. Jacobs, held a meeting with the board members of the NAPB assisted by their legal advisor Cor Merx.

The gettering took place in the Governments Building under the excellent- chairmanship of the Honorable Prime Minster Jacobs.

The meeting was called into existence to find solutions for the current situation the police workers are facing.

The topics that were covered include amongst other things:

Placement letters Backlog payments Overtime Salary scaling according the index of 16.3% and 3.2%

After a successful 2.5 hours long conversation, both parties left the table with a feeling of optimism.

The discussion went very fruitfully respecting each others point of view and sometimes very detailed.

The issues that were in the media for the last two weeks have been solved in good faith and trust.

Most importantly, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for the police workers, as both parties have expressed their intent to work together and bring this matter to an end.

The saga of the Ministry of Justice continues with untruthful and/or half truth stories, starting with:

the function book is finished and signed and payments will follow, to not yet ready and returned by the Governor, then to the pension funds APS needs to do their calculation, then to SOAB needs to do an audit, then to money is there, then to placement, then to maybe payment can be done earlier than planned, to now legal heads will look into it.

Johnson Declared Cut Les Harris Cricket Tournament Officially Open

Philipsburg — The Les Harris Cricket Tournamentwas held in Trinidad from April 3 to 7, 2023 at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.

Jamaica, Guyana, and Trinidad participated in the bi-annual Cricket Tournament of the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT).Stuart Johnson traveled to Trinidad as the 3rd Vice President of the CUT as the responsible CUT Officer supporting the host organization the Trinidad & Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA).

In his address, Johnson extended his appreciation to TTUTA for answering the call of CUT to host the Les Harris Cricket Competition which was put on hold since the Covid-19 pandemic.

3,908 De-Registered In Civil Registry Clean Up

PHILIPSBURG — A total of 3,908 persons have been de-registered from St. Maartens Civil Registry as part of the clean-up process of the registry.

SABA — The new Saba Island Council 2023-2027 was installed on Wednesday, March 29. Carl Buncamper Says Farewell To Island Council After 16 Years

SABA — Carl Buncamper of the Windward Islands Peoples Movement (WIPM) held his farewell speech in the last meeting of the outgoing Island Council on Tuesday, March 28. Buncamper has been a member of the Saba Island Council for 16 years.

Buncamper ran in six elections. He participated in five Island Council elections from 2007 to 2023 and in one election for the then Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles. When he first got elected in 2007, Saba was still part of the Netherlands Antilles and Saba had a seat in Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles.
