PHILIPSBURG:--- As we are nearing election day, August 29th, we at Philipsburg broadcasting network, as a corporate citizen of St. Maarten,
feel that is our responsibility to our listeners to assist them in providing as much information as possible regarding the position of the different political parties on the issues regarding business and the St. Maarten economy. At the end of the day it is the private sector that is the motor that drives our country, the friendly island.

Presently all parties are campaigning and indicating, if elected, what they will do to improve our country. Needless to say that the finances to accomplish this will only be available if our economy is healthy and flourishing.

We therefore have invited the political parties that have representation in the current parliament to participate in a formal discussion on Laser 101, the radio station that several surveys indicated to be the most listened too on St. Maarten.

The candidates that will attend this discussion will be, Emil Lee from the Democratic Party, George Pantophlet from the National Alliance, Claret Connor from the United People's Party and Harlec Doran from the United St. Maarten Party.

Due to the fact that tourism can be considered the only industry our country knows, this formal discussion will focus primarily on this and the "new" government's relationship with the private sector and how they plan to work together to indeed boost our economy.

Economy, finance, taxes, policy and procedures around doing business, marketing, partnership with the French side and surrounding islands etc. will be touched upon during this discussion. Opposing arguments will most probably be brought forward by the candidates on how their party in general, but themselves in particular will manage if they find themselves at the helm of this country either as a parliamentarian, minister of tourism, economic affairs or minister of finance. The program will be aired live on Saturday August 16th from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM

There will be no "call ins" during this radio program, but listeners can pose questions using emails and or social media, and upon discretion of the host, may be posed to the candidates.

The moderator for this formal discussion will be Glen A. Carty, co-owner of Philipsburg Broadcasting Network, former president of the St.Maarten Chamber of Commerce, a businessman conducting business on St.Maarten for the last 29 years.
