Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG:--- As another year draws to a close, I HOPE you recognize that our fight is far from overit has just begun.
Don't even assume for a second that the privileges we enjoy today won't be taken away tomorrow.
A classic illustration of how our rights are being violated is the controversy over vacation payments.
Some of us are fortunate enough to have a few days off as a holiday. Others, however, are not afforded this privilege.
As teachers, non-teaching staff, and government employees, we frequently perform unseen, behind-the-scenes duties that are essential to maintaining our economy. Even while we are aware of the commitments we made, it is difficult to constantly make these sacrifices.
When it comes to protecting and upholding your rights, the WITU is your trusted ally.
From International Women's Day to International Men's Day to Zumba Fitness Day to our membership pins and the amazing Teacher Appreciation Boat Cruise, we have done a lot of activities in your honor.
The ongoing dispute over vacation allowances, the requirement for a revised vacation schedule, and the necessity to complete the function book for education will, however, put our hearts and spirits to the test in 2023.
The WITU will surely keep fighting for your rights, making sure that contracts, paid time off, sick leave, and other benefits you've worked hard to obtain, like vacation pay, are always honored.
Contact your union if you're unsure. Inform your union if somebody intimidates you. Contact your union if you are being coerced into signing anything.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that we are a very strong union and help those who also merit the chance to join a union at work without worrying about repercussions.
"Our union is as powerful as its membership, and there is strength in numbers," I have emphasized since day one.
Remember that everyone deserves better pay and better working conditions.
