Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
MARIGOT--Third Vice-President Wendel Cocks presided over the first workshop and meeting on Friday, October 31, with the consortium of business partners, including Semsamar, engaged in the study to restructure and revitalise downtown Marigot as announced in early 2014 by President Aline Hanson.
This group of experts will be working with the elected officials and technicians of the Collectivité on the project. The group is required to achieve a number of studies and diagnostics in the field starting November 24.
The aim is to develop actions that will create an urban environment conducive to the development of businesses and economic activity, while also placing emphasis on restoring historic buildings to promote heritage as a tourism draw, and enhancing the attractiveness of the waterfront.
The revitalisation study takes place in two phases; the first to ascertain the state of the town as it is presently and secondly to elaborate more on how the project will be carried out. The study is expected to be completed by the end of 2015. The population and business persons of Marigot will be associated with the project and consulted during the study.
A complete analysis of Marigot will be done to include the topography of the town, study of existing businesses and activities, amount of green space, state of infrastructure, housing, parking, and so on. A development and infrastructure plan will be implemented to redesign the town centre.
This study is separate, but related to the development project for Marigot Bay that will include a cruise ship pier and more berths for mega yachts among the improvements. The objective is to upgrade the town by combining its modern and historic aspects to draw a well heeled tourist clientele from the cruise ships and mega yachts.
The development plan for Marigot will be presented to the population at the end of 2015 for realisation in 2016.
