Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
Hasani Ellis
PHILIPSBURG--St. Maartener Hasani Ellis is tipped to be the country’s Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary in The Hague. He is currently undergoing justice and integrity screening.
Ellis was a candidate with the Democratic Party (DP) of Member of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams in the September 26 Parliamentary election, but did not earn a seat in Parliament. Should he be sworn in by Governor Eugene Holiday, this post will be his first-ever political assignment.
The post of Minister Plenipotentiary is held by Henrietta Doran-York (National Alliance (NA)) who was again sworn in to the post on Tuesday along with other members of the William Marlin Cabinet II. That Cabinet, supported by NA, DP and United St. Maarten Party (US Party), is awaiting the swearing-in of a Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications (TEATT) as well as the Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary.
