Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — I wish to express a heartfelt THANK YOU to the voters who placed their trust in the Democratic Party of St. Maarten, and to all those who exercised their right to vote on September 26.
The voters have spoken and this must be respected. Congratulations go out to the 2016 DP team and in particular our Minister Lee with his impressive results at the polls. The 5 (new) parties that contested the election showed that our democracy is alive and well.
I congratulate the other 3 parties (USP, UPP and NA) on their victories and wish the UPP and NA much wisdom in their negotiations. With the rest of St. Maarten, we await the outcome of these negotiations and truly HOPE that the decisions taken will be in the interest of the ENTIRE country and all its people.
To the DP candidates I say, “Have no regrets, you offered honest change and fought a valiant fight in murky waters.â€
And guess what, we/you will go at it again, when the need arises for honest and capable politicians. Until then, walk with your heads high. Our focus will continue to be on the economic development of this island, however with the overall objective to address the dire social needs of our country.
