PHILIPSBURG--Windward Islands Civil Servants Union/Private Sector Union (WICSU/PSU) members will vote for a new Executive Board during elections scheduled for this Friday, May 29, from 7:00am to 4:00pm.

The election will be held at the WICSU/PSU office on the Walter Nisbeth Road (Pondfill Road). Two persons have so far signalled their intention to contest the presidency's post: senior civil servant Denisio Conner and former Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary Henrietta Doran-York. Francisco Mariana will contest the election for the position of Treasurer and Riegnald Arrindell will contest the election for the position of General Secretary.

Outgoing President Dearie Leonard said an election committee had been formed as is stipulated in the union's bylaws. The committee comprises members R. Carty, Mr. Solangier, B. Bryson and F. Cuffy.

Presidential candidate Conner said he is vying for the president's post to "repair the image" of the union and to "save the WICSU/PSU from further derailment." If elected, he said his intentions will be to rebuild the credibility of the union and to represent and defend the rights of all civil servants which he said have been neglected.

He also intends to work in the best interest of the union's membership in the private sector. Conner, who said he has been a civil servant for two decades and a member of WICSU/PSU for 18 years, said he is not politically affiliated.

He also plans to properly represent the union's membership in Saba and St. Eustatius. He said an elections committee was not installed as is required by the union's constitution and which he said should function independent of the board.

However, Leonard said one has been installed. Connor was critical of the outgoing president for not adhering to the rules of the union.
