Minister Of Justice Anna E. Richardson Pleased With The Results Of Justice Conference

Philipsburg On Monday, July 12, 2021 through Wednesday, July 14, 2021, the Honorable Minister Anna E. Richardson hosted a Conference commemorating Justice Week 2021 at the Simpson Bay Resort. The conference served as an opportunity for each department and external partners of the Ministry to discuss topics related to their operations which included their legal basis, year plans, the budget, challenges, plan of actions aimed at improving the functionality and effectiveness of same. Present at the conference was the Coast Guard, Court of Guardianship, the Police Force of Sint Maarten, National Detectives, Customs, the Admissions and Expulsions section of the Immigration Department, Financial Intelligence Unit Sint Maarten and the Foundation Judicial Institutes Sint Maarten (SJIB).

Island Gems Presents Laptops To Two Valedictorians

DUTCH QUARTER, Sint Maarten The valedictorians of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School and Helmich Snijders Hillside Christian School were rewarded with laptops for their academic achievement by Island Gems Charity Foundation. The two valedictorians are both headed to Milton Peters College come the new school year.

Brittany Lake is the valedictorian of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School. She also took home the top honours in mathematics and Dutch language. She received her laptop from Island Gems Varsha Punjabi and Astrid Plantz-Gartner.

Us $45 Million In Additional Financing Allocated To Erp-1

Philipsburg World Bank Country Director for Caribbean Countries Lilia Burunciuc and National Recovery Program Bureau (NRPB) Director Claret Connor on Tuesday afternoon signed a grant agreement allocating US $45 million in additional financing to the Emergency Recovery Project (ERP-1).

ERP-1 is one of the flagship projects of the Sint Maarten Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund, which is financed by the Government of the Netherlands, managed by the World Bank, and implemented by the NRPB.

The signing took place in the presence of Sint Maarten Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs directly after a meeting with the Council of Ministers, World Bank representatives, and NRPB officials at the Government Administration Building.
The additional funding is necessary to complete the wide range of activities under ERP-1, which include repairs to homes, schools, and critical Government buildings that were damaged during Hurricane Irma in 2017 Read more

~Situation Update on Tuesday, July 13, 2021~

MARIGOT:--- As announced on Monday, July 12, 2021, in the press, President Gibbs and the General Directorate of the Collectivit of Saint-Martin received a delegation from the local union UNI.T978, to discuss the 29 points listed on the strike notice that was issued on July 2, 2021.
At this stage, it should be noted that the purpose of this meeting was to provide concrete answers to the legitimate concerns of the employees.
However, after 1h30 of discussions, the social dialogue initiated by President Daniel Gibbs and his team was broken off by the union delegation which decided to leave the negotiating table, consequently terminating the meeting.
Together with her directorates, heads of departments, and staff members, the General Director of the Administration constitutes a fully integrated team of dedicated people at the service of Saint-Martin.
Furthermore, the President insisted that the debate could not be limited to an issue of persons.
"It is therefore an entire team around me and all the people who were all expecting answers to the real issues that were raised.
In the current social and economic context, it is unfortunate that we cannot move forward with the modernization of our administration that is necessary for us to face tomorrows challenges.
