PHILIPSBURG:--- Former Minister of Labor and now labor mediator Raphael Boasman may soon find himself in hot water for holding a referendum at GEBE on Friday without inviting or even informing the WIFOL/ ASWE who signed a Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) of the rank file (non- managerial) employees of the company.
According to the President of WIFOL/ ASWE Theophillus Thompson the union he heads signed a Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) at the end of 2013 and it is still valid.Thompson said several articles of that CLA did was not executed by the Human Resource Manager Clifford Sasso.

During Wednesdays Council Of Ministers Press briefing, Minister Lee stated that the Ministry of VSA, along with SZV , and SMMC received 3 completed bids for the New St.Maarten Medical Center on Monday July 18 by 2 PM.

12 original interested bidders were narrowed down by preselection criteria to a total of 5 bidders and of those 5, 3 submitted their bids by the cut off time.

Council Of Ministers Will Be The First To Occupy New Govt Building

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - As per August 31st, the lease agreement with buildings housing General Affairs Departments will be terminated.

This is as a result of the government moving to occupy the New Government Administration Building.

Speaking at the Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday and in providing an update, Prime Minister with the responsibility for General Affairs, the Honorable William Marlin told journalists that the Landlords for the various buildings housing General Affairs Departments have been notified that those offices will be moving out by August 31st.

William Happy With Verdict On Integrity Chamber Law

PHILIPSBURG--Prime Minister William Marlin is “happy” with the tossing out of the national ordinance establishing an integrity chamber by the Constitutional Court last week. Government’s Legal Affairs Department is reviewing the verdict to render an advice to the Council of Ministers on the way for forward.

Marlin told the press on Wednesday, a week after the verdict was rendered, the law “criminalized” the entire community, would have left people “guilty until proven innocent” and gave “far-reaching powers” to the people related to the chamber.

He said every night when going home he would drive through certain areas to see if the garbage was picked up but there are things he personally noticed that causes concern. Gebe Remains Mum On Continued Outages

PHILIPSBURG--Utilities company GEBE remains silent about the continued electricity outages plaguing the Dutch side of the island over the past days. Some residents have been experiencing as many as three or four outages on a daily basis.

The Daily Herald requested a comment from the company’s management about the outages, but no statement has been released since last week Monday, July 4, when it was stated that three engines that provide a total of 18 megawatts (MWs) of power were being repaired and/or overhauled.

Rationale For Elections Falls Apart As Kingdom Council Opposes To The Changes In Electoral Reform Proposed By St. Maarten.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Kingdom Council of Ministers expresses serious doubt over “ship jumping” solution proposed by St. Maarten. The law of “unintended consequences” raises its ugly head as the Kingdom Council gave a negative advice on the changes to be made in the country’s constitution which would have addressed the so-called ship jumping.

The Kingdom Council of Ministers has informed the Prime Minister of St. Maarten that their proposed changes to the constitution to stop ship jumping will not work since it will hinge on democracy within parliament.
