Expedition Crew Spreads Awareness Of Protecting Oceans From Plastics

Information stands were set up on the shoreline next to Marina Fort Louis.

  The 26-metre 7th Continent Expedition schooner visited Marina Fort Louis on May 6 and 7.

MARIGOT--Explorer Patrick Deixonne and his crew of schooner 7th Continent Expedition were at Fort Louis Marina, Marigot, May 6-7 to raise awareness among the public of the urgent need to preserve the oceans and to stress the importance of sorting waste, the first barrier against marine pollution.

The name 7th Continent comes from areas in the worlds oceans where there is a particularly high concentration of plastics driven together by currents, effectively forming their own continents.

Helmet Distribution Comes With Strong Message To Save Lives

MARIGOT--The Collectivit in conjunction with the Council for Security and Delinquency Prevention (Conseil Local de Scurit et de Prvention de la Dlinquance CLSPD) distributed free crash helmets to young people in Sandy Ground on Friday evening.

President of the Collectivit Louis Mussington, Second Vice-President Bernadette Davis, Territorial Councillors Martine Beldor and Raphal Sanchez were joined by the Prfectures Director of Cabinet Services Julien Marie to deliver to an assembled group of youngsters a strong message on safety and protection when riding two-wheelers.

Davis reminded that three deaths alone this year from two-wheeler accidents have plunged families into mourning.

~ State and COM said no permits were issued to block public beaches.~

MARIGOT/PHILIPSBURG:--- A businessman at La Samana Hotel identified as Craig has illegally blocked off the access to a public beach claiming he has received authorization from the state and local government to block off the beach for his private use.
A net has been placed in the water preventing chartered boats and tourists from accessing the beach behind La Samana. Several boat captains that operate chartered tours told SMN News that Craig informed them that they are not allowed to enter behind La Samana beach because they were granted permission to privatize the beach for their own operations.
SMN News contacted the Prefecture of Saint Martin requesting information regarding the permission given to Craig, the American businessman, The communication department said that La Samana and the businessman were not given any permission to block off the beaches that are public beaches Read more
