PHILIPSBURG:--- The Democratic Party of Sint Maarten proudly salutes all women on this day of global recognition of the position of women as equal partners in development and sustainable advancement for all humankind.

On days like IWD, we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and we also echo the call for the elimination of inequalities, discrimination, and prejudices against women and girls, that permeate societies today.

On days like this, we are most proud of our leader and her steadfastness, never giving up and riding the rough waves of political life, with dignity and poise, a role model for aspiring politicians.

When we are able to break down the inequalities that women face in their homes, their workplaces, and their communities, through understanding the different dimensions that stand in the way of gender equality, only then can we construct the paths of equity, the DP leader stated.

IWD is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women throughout the world, past and present.

PHILIPSBURG:---   Minister of Public Health, Social Development, and Labor (VSA), the Honorable Omar Ottley, has dispelled the politically motivated contrast attempted by some who recently criticized the pace of constructing the new General Hospital in Sint Maarten as "the politricks of misinformation in an election year." Minister Ottley stated, While I share the same sentiments as the general public concerning the pace  of the new hospital, the issues with the hospital started way before my political journey.

Minister Ottley, said on Sunday, "As elections draw closer, it will become increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine concerns and fraudulent misrepresentations of the truth by those who seek to manipulate the public's perception of reality."

In 2019, members of parliament passed a vote of no confidence firing the then Minister of VSA Emil Lee, with one of the main points of the motion being his inability to start construction for the new general hospital, two and a half years after the contract was signed Read more

PHILIPSBURG:--- With its interim board in place and this boards first meeting held on February 3rd, the DP over the weekend outlined the activities for the coming months.

DP leader Sarah Wescot stated that the 11-member board had divided the tasks among themselves, electing Mr. A. Roberto Richardson as its president.

The first meeting was an introductory meeting, the party leader further explained, but the board also discussed the outline of the partys upcoming events.

The first event is on Saturday, February 25th, when the Party will be having its first Family Fun Day in a very long time, at the traditional location of Kimsha beach.

DP leader, MP Wescot-Williams explained that while this beach is quite crowded nowadays, the party has teamed up with one of the local restauranteurs, where food and drinks will be on sale.

The exciting part of this event is the games and the prizes that can be won, such as weekend getaways, electronics, and cash prizes for young and old.
The prize announcements will take place at specific times during the day, so the public is encouraged to follow the party online for more information and times.

Following the February family fun day, our sight is set on March, during which month in our view, the focus needs to be on Women; celebrating our achievements, acknowledging our challenges, and issuing a call to action Read more
