Dp Leader Pays Tribute To The Late Anguillian Hero, The Honorable James Ronald Webster.

PHILIPSBURG/The Valley Anguilla:---I was humbled by the experience to pay my final respect to a man of such stature and esteem. The accounts of his life again brought to the fore, the common and intertwined history shared by Anguilla, St. Maarten and St. Martin. A history that I am proud to be a product of. It brought back memories of how the Anguilla diaspora experienced the revolution and the subsequent developments on Anguilla. The late J. Ronald Webster and many of his contemporaries , including my deceased mother, had to leave their land of birth at an early age to seek a livelihood abroad Read more

New Year’S Address Of Prime Minister William Marlin

Fellow St. Maarteners,

Residents of our beautiful island,

The year 2016 is now bound for the history books as we enter 2017 with joy and hope, with excitement and enthusiasm, determined that this will be our best year ever!

And as we bid the Old Year goodbye, we cannot but realize that being alive to see the New Year is in itself a huge blessing, for so many who began 2016 with us did not make it this far. We remember them with affection and pray that the good Lord will have a place reserved for them at his right hand.

If one word could describe the year 2016 it probably would be “transition.” Not just because life itself is a transition, but also because transitions can be painful and shocking and even full of chaos Read more

St Vincent Opposition Party Selects New Leader

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent  –  Lawyer and four-time Member of Parliament, Dr. Godwin Friday, was elected to lead the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), when he garnered the support of his colleagues in a vote on Thursday.

This paves the way for him to be sworn in as leader of the opposition.

This development comes just two days after Arnhim Eustace, who led the NDP since October 2000 and became opposition leader in March 2001, told the NDP’s central committee that he is stepping down from both posts.

Following Friday’s selection, a letter was sent to Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne informing him of the development as well as a communiqué stating that Arnhim Eustace had formally resigned as leader of the opposition.

It was widely speculated that Friday, who along with MP for the Southern Grenadines, Terrance Ollivierre, were elected in March 2001, making them the longest-serving opposition MP’s after Eustace, would have defeated the other two contenders for the position – the MP for Central Kingstown and fellow NPD vice president, St Read more

Dp Feels That A Local Solution To The Oyster Pond Dispute Is Possible

OYSTERPOND, Sint Maarten — The Democratic Party feels that before damaging the cooperation between the Northern and Southern halves of the island, all efforts to find a speedy resolution locally should have been exhausted before escalating the conflict by boycotting the St. Maarten/St. Martin Day celebration, a celebration of unity and friendship by the people and for the people.
