Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG--The country has a total of 1,075 street addresses registered at the Civil Registry, Department of Statistics STAT and the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI. However, only 713 addresses match in all three databases.
The difference of the 362 street addresses is being investigated, Prime Minister/General Affairs Minister Marcel Gumbs told Parliament in the continuation of the Central Committee meeting on the draft 2015 budget on Friday. The investigation started in December 2014 and is being conducted via cooperation of VROMI, STATS and the Civil Registry.
After the problem with the street names is solved, the house numbering will be undertaken by government. "If this is finalised we can take action on persons living on the addresses or being registered on the addresses," he said.
The focus is to get persons living at the addresses "registered the right way" with the proper street address and house number.
It is already possible for the Civil Registry to share information digitally and give an automatic update to other departments when there is a change in data of the Civil Registry.
Gumbs said a second register at the Civil Registry for persons not living in the country or on the French side could be considered. Persons living outside of St. Maarten will cover St. Maarten students studying abroad who need to renew documents such as driving licence, identification card and insurance.
