Pond Island:--- TelEm Group technicians in the Outside Plant (OSP), along with several TelEm Group contractors, recently completed a Fiber to the Home (FTTH) training course and earned certificates of achievement for their efforts.
The training centered on various aspects of fiber optic installation that are essential to TelEm Group continuing with the rollout of the FTTH infrastructure throughout St. Maarten. This is most important since the works of the main contractor, KNC Networks, is quickly coming to an end later this month.

TelEm Group CEO, Mr. Kendall Dupersoy, has all confidence in the ability of local technicians to complete the fiber rollout project on St. Maarten.
It was known that the KNC contract did not include island-wide project, therefore it was important for us to prepare and equip our own technicians and contractors with the skills needed to finish this important work for the St. Maarten community, said Mr. Dupersoy.
The CEO says it makes even more sense that the FTTH should be left in the hands of internal staff and contractors on St. Maarten since they are the ones who will be maintaining the network infrastructure with the departure of the main contractor anyway.
I would like to thank KNC for the fantastic work they have done these past two years, having taken over the project at short notice, and having set records when it came to connecting certain areas to the fiber network infrastructure, continued Mr. Dupersoy.
The TelEm Group CEO said not only did KNC hit the ground running, but they also worked along with the companys technical division and sub-contractors to ensure there was knowledge transfer, allowing for the continuation of the fiber rollout when KNCs contract with TelEm Group comes to an end in December 2021.
Mr. Dupersoy has congratulated the newly certificated TelEm Group technicians and contractors upon whom the balance of the fiber rollout infrastructure will depend.
We are all counting on you to continue with the rollout and to show that we are capable of executing all that we have learned. I am totally confident in our own ability to be successful, added Mr. Dupersoy.
TelEm Group Chief Technical Officer, CTO, Mr. Eldert Louisa, is also proud of the achievement of the technical staff and contractors, also urging them to make use of their learned skills to build and maintain the best fiber infrastructure in the entire Caribbean region.
It is good that it is the technical staff themselves who are turning the company from a telecommunications company into a technology company with the fiber infrastructure as the main pillar that is pulling everything together. Its something they should all be very proud of because it will be the driving force of the St. Maarten economy for years to come, said Mr. Louisa.
