OSPP town hall meet curtailed by no power
OSPP
Source:
The Daily Herald
03 Aug 2014 04:19 AM
COLE BAY--The first town hall meeting of One St. Maarten People's Party (
OSPP
) had to be cancelled last evening due to a power failure at the Salvation Army Headquarters in Cole Bay. It was the only building in Cole Bay out of power. The meeting was due to start at 7:00pm, but candidates and supporters were left standing in the dark. A technician from utilities company GEBE arrived around 8:30pm to try to remedy the issue. By then, the party leader, former Commissioner Lenny Priest, decided to call it a night.
OSPP
will continue with its town hall meeting today, Friday, in Rupert Maynard Youth Community Centre in St. Peters starting at 7:00pm. Priest said SPP candidates will sign at that town hall meeting a copy of the code of ethics put forward by the Council of Churches, the United Ministerial Foundation and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Priest already signed the code at a gathering of the political leaders hosted by church representatives on Wednesday. Priest was one of the five political leaders present who signed the code.
OSPP
was launched a year ago and will contest an election for the first time on August 29. The party has nine candidates, including Priest, on its slate for the Parliamentary Elections.
