PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Leader of the Democratic Party of St. Maarten, Sarah Wescot Williams has shifted her stance in the current coalition of the UP led government.

The leader of the DP, who currently holds the position of President of Parliament, told journalists during a press conference on Wednesday that she is making her position as President of the legislative body available to the UP Party.

However, Mrs. Wescot-Williams fell short of saying that she was resigning or has resigned from the position as President of the Parliament of St. Maarten.

Currently, she holds the position of President of Parliament and that of caretaker Prime Minister of the country.

Speaking at the press conference on Wednesday, the DP leader spoke of the events leading up to her signing a document to support the 7 plus 1 declaration with the UP leader Theo Heyliger.

Seemingly, the leader of the Democratic Party is not too happy with the manner in which the posts for Ministers were negotiated.

Efforts to contact UP officials for a reaction on the statement of leader of the Democratic Party have thus far proven futile.

However, we have understood that the United People Party will accept the position as is being made available by the President of Parliament, Sarah Wescot-Williams.

We have also learnt that if they do accept the position of the leader of the Democratic Party, Member of Parliament, the Honorable Dr. Lloyd Richardson will fill the post as President of Parliament.
