Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG--Only six Members of Parliament (MPs) were signed in for the plenary session of Parliament to formalise the Intellectual Property Bureau on Wednesday afternoon, two short of the quorum of eight MPs needed for the meeting to start.
The meeting now will have to be reconvened by Chairwoman of Parliament MP Sarah Wescot-Williams within four days (four times 24 hours) as stipulated by Parliament's Rules of Order. Wescot-Williams said she would reconvene the meeting in the coming days.
Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication Minister Ted Richardson was present for the meeting to give details about the benefits of the bureau for the country.
Signed in for the meeting were United People's (UP) party MPs Dr. Lloyd Richardson, Johan Leonard, and Tamara Leonard, independent MP Leona Marlin-Romeo, Democratic Party MPs Cornelius de Weever and Wescot-Williams.
Present in the General Assembly Hall and sitting in their seats, but not signed in for the meeting, were United St. Maarten Party MP Frans Richardson and National Alliance (NA) MP Christophe Emmanuel.
Absent with notice were UP Parliamentarians Theo Heyliger, Silvio Matser, Franklin Meyers and Maurice Lake, and NA Parliamentarian Silveria Jacobs.
