~ Postulation Day November 13th ~

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Governor of St. Maarten drs Eugene Holiday signed off the decree for elections to be held on Monday, January 8th, 2018 while postulation day will be on Monday, November 13th, 2017. The Parliament of St. Maarten will be dissolved on January 31st, 2018.
The people of St. Maarten have to go through yet another election because Member of Parliament Chanel Brownbill chose to jump ship and signed an agreement with the United Peoples Party and the Democratic Party. The agreement was signed last week Sunday while the new majority was formed on Monday. On Thursday, the UP/DP/ Brownbill coalition voted on a motion of non-confidence against six Ministers of the Marlin II cabinet which led to the Prime Minister of St. Maarten to submit the resignation of his cabinet and also submit a decree to the Governor of St. Maarten to dissolve the Parliament of St. Maarten and call for new elections. One day after receiving the request from the Prime Minister Governor Holiday signed off on the request and set the dates for postulation, election and the dissolution of the Parliament of St. Maarten.

Prime Minister William Marlin signs National Decree to Dissolve Parliament.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On Friday morning Prime Minister William Marlin and Governor Drs. Eugene Holiday signed the National Decree to dissolve Parliament, following the motion of no confidence in the Marlin Cabinet.
The date for the elections has been set for Friday, January 8, 2018. Postulation day is Monday, November 13, 2017 and the new Parliament will take office on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
Based on the law, postulation day should have been on November 11th and because of this, the date was moved to Monday, November 13.
