All Schools ready for Monday Re-opening.

>GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Hon. Patricia Lourens-Philip, would like to inform and reiterate that ALL schools will resume on Monday October 20, 2014.

This includes the St. Maarten Vocational Training School, Martin Luther King Primary School, Genevieve De Weever and the Oranje School. It was mentioned in a communication on Friday that these schools might not be ready, but the aforementioned schools are also ready and parents/guardians of these schools are hereby informed that they can send their children to school on Monday.

In preparation for the resumption of classes, school boards were advised by the Division of Student Support Services of Ministry ECYS of the strategies that should be employed, in the first few day days of school, to meet the needs of students who have been impacted by the storm.

In addition, a psychologist and social workers of the Division will also be visiting the various schools to guide and provide additional support to the student care teams of the various schools for as long as the need arises.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports congratulated all stakeholders for the positive, deliberate steps taken to ensure minimal interruption in the education of students as a result of the passing of the hurricane.

Minister Lourens-Philip would like to reiterate her appreciation to the volunteers within the various communities as well as the management teams, teachers and cleaners of schools that contributed tremendously towards the cleaning up of the school facilities which were in many instances significantly impacted by the hurricane.
