Road Closures And Traffic Measures In Connection With The Upcoming “2017 Carnival Opening Jump-Up”

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — In connection with the upcoming “2017 Carnival Opening Jump-up” which is scheduled to take place on Monday April 17th / Easter Monday, the Police Department is announcing the following road closures and traffic measures:

The “Opening Jump Up” is scheduled to start at 08.00 p.m. sharp on the L.B. Scot road in the vicinity of the Milton Peters College in Reward. All band trucks and DJ’s will gather at the starting point prior to the departure.

At 07.00 p.m.  L.B. Scot road between W.B. Peterson Street and W.R. Plantz road will be closed to all traffic in the direction of Weymouth Hill.

At 07.40 p.m.  L.B. Scot road will be closed at the entrance to St. Peters road. No traffic allowed in the direction of Weymouth Hill. Traffic will also be closed on the L.B. Scot road at the Arbutus road.

At 08.20 p.m.  L.B. Scot road will be closed at the Flamboyant road and Gladiola road. No traffic allowed into Reward and St. Peters via the L.B. Scot road.

At 09.00 p.m.  L.B. Scot road will be closed at the Church Hill round about. No traffic will be allowed into the Reward and St. Peters areas via this section of the L.B. Scot road. A.J.C. Brouwers road will be closed at Welgelegen road. No traffic towards the Church Hill round about.

At 09.15 p.m.  Zagersgut road closed at Bush road. No traffic allowed in the direction of Church Hill round about en Prins Bernard Brug.

At 09.50 p.m.  A. Th. Illidge road will closed at the Prins Bernard Brug, Long wall road and Walter Nisbeth road. Walter Nisbeth road will be closed at the W. Percy Labega Street. No traffic allowed in the direction of the Prins Bernard Brug.

At 10.20 p.m.  Manzanilla steeg, Tamarinde Steeg and J. Richardson Street closed to the Walter Nisbeth road.

At 10.45 p.m.  Walter Nisbeth road closed at the Hensey Beaujon Street. No traffic allowed in the direction of Prins Bernard Brug.

At 11.00 p.m.  C.W. Vlaun closed in the direction Walter Nisbeth road. Walter Nisbeth road closed at Salt pickers round about.

At 11.10 p.m.  D.A Peterson Street and Walter Nisbeth road closed at Salt Pickers round about. No traffic allowed coming from the direction of Freedom Fighter round about via Walter Nisbeth road. Soualiga Boulevard closed at Rock Salt drive. No traffic allowed in the direction of the Salt pickers round about.

The Jump up will come to an end when it reaches in front of the Festival Village shortly before mid-night.

Due to the long Easter Holiday weekend all drivers should take this information seriously into account to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience or delays. They should use alternatives routes to get to and from their destination and they should also follow all instructions given by police during this event.
